Its real simple, for over 3 years i have made & released mods/programs for Visual Basic, PHP, MySQL, etc.. and ran the support sites for free. All at my cost. Recently i have decided to add a subscription charge for support. I have left the downloads open & free. You can download & use them all you wish, but i cant keep spending hours on end everyday giving support like i have been doing.
In short, its not forced to subscribe to the support forums to use my scripts, it is however forced to recieve support. So please do not loophole it & post support in the wrong forums, PM me them, email me them, etc..
I will simply lock them. If you dont like it, sorry. This is how things are going to be for now. |

Ok, since i can manually add users to this group & manually set expiration dates, if you have another way of paying for it, IE via paypal directly & not using the subscription + CC way, PM me & let me know.
If you can make a payment for $3 x # of months, i can set the expiration date to that amount of months. So if you send $9, then your expiration date will be in 3 months, etc..
But doing it this way, you need to send the payment by using the donate button, then PM me & tell me that it was for X amount of months VIP membership.
Hopefully that will accomidate some of the users.... |

| well, i understand what it is your after, only thing i disagree with is making us pay to read.... last i knew, thats what the internet was about, If you need to post a question... thats a different story, but to read a help topic, that may or may not actually even help us... sorta isnt what i thought u had in mind. |

Its a tricky situation Firestorm. If you allow others to read, then people without accounts will bother those with accounts to post questions so others can read the answer. Wont really save any time and wont make any money that way, and itll just cause one small extra step to get everything for nothing (or next to nothing)
$3 a month really sounds reasonable to me. Maybe thats just because i have a steady job and not many expenses to deal with (i know its different for others not as lucky)
For those who think $3 a month is bad, why not just subscribe once every few months to check up on the various issues? Or if you dont have access to a credit card or paypal, then find an older friend or something to help you out with that or see if maybe austin will set up a special deal with you. Hes a reasonable guy, and everyone knows hes helpful. I think hed be willing to work stuff out ^_>

| For now, i have to have it seperate on each site, becuase they are hosted on different domains & different servers now. So until i find (if i find) a way to integrate the 2 sites groups, they have to be seperate. And its for full site access, not each forum. |

I thought I would bring this up since so many people are posting in the feedback forum for support.
Im wondering if opening the support forums so they can at least be read by registered users so people can search for common issues related with mods that are listed here. I have run into a few people that have had a minor issue when they first installed mods from here and Amod and they end up just removing them because they cant find any answers to common problems.
Just curious what you thought about this. |

| Ok, ive allowed view & read to reg users, so if you cant find it searching, then sorry. This is the best its going to get, so i'd suggest if you dont want to join the group, learn to use the search function. |

| I'd prefer not, but in the Misc Support i will answer them as long as it doesn't get out of hand, simply from the confusion on my end that i resolved by making 2 sites. |

Sounds like a fair deal to me.
I'm getting to the point where I'm on the verge of quitting the phpBB MOD scene because of the excessive support side of things & the time I waste responding to the same old question. It becomes a major pain the ass after a while especially when you want to code and can't get a decent amount of work done.
I might end up taking a similar stance on support. |

aUs,
I would have no problem paying for support, you are one of the most knowledgeable people on phpBB that I know, and have always been helpful...
I am curious to know if you would offer paid support on a per user basis...I have about 3 nagging issues, that in fact may be oversights, but I am really tired of looking at them...
I'd rather pay you to help me get these things sorted than to keep wasting my time looking at them over and over when I don't know what I'm doing...I have been hacking @ phpBB for a couple of years, and I'm no expert, but when simple hacks aren't working, I get frustrated...Like I am now...
So, I can donate now, and just ask the questions per, or try something else...I know you are busy though, so I thought it be fair for me to ask if that is proper or not... |

When I run the installer.php for the security mod I get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: encode_ip() in /usr331/home/n/m/nmpra-ad/public_html/phpBB2/includes/phpbb_security.php on line 503
I was getting these two errors:
Warning: Failed opening './language/lang_/lang_phpbb_security.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/addr/php/lib/php') in /usr331/home/n/m/nmpra-ad/public_html/phpBB2/includes/phpbb_security.php on line 18
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: encode_ip() in /usr331/home/n/m/nmpra-ad/public_html/phpBB2/includes/phpbb_security.php on line 503
So I added a directory "./language/lang_/ with lang_phpbb_security.php in it and the first error went away.
I do have phpbb_config table entry for 'default_lang','english'. I am running the latest level of phpBB2 -- v2.0.19
Any suggestions?
I did have one problem in modifying common.php I did not have a "<?" so I added the code after:
//
// Define some basic configuration arrays this also prevents
// malicious rewriting of language and otherarray values via
// URI params
//
This may be the problem as there are arrays defined after the code I added.
----------------- edited from here ------ problem solved ----------
This was the problem, I moved the subject code to end of common.php.
Next I backed out all the mods and after several tries found that the installer.php would run after I logged into the forum as an administrator.
The resulting instructions that were displayed referenced more changes to phpbb_security.php. They said to find "function phpBBSecurity_AdminConfigName() { return 'phpBBSecurity_max_admins'; }
This didn't exist but 'real_admins" did so that was what needed to be altered to my name assigned during the installer.
So basically I now have it working. Still I have something incorrect in the admin .htaccess, but I'll figure it out eventually.
Regards
Stan |

In other words:
We release a MOD and if there is a problem, it is YOUR problem, not ours.
Poor kids.
Sorry, but this "you must pay for us to fix our own code" is something I believed omly coming from Microsoft.

I think you are mistaken. The only problems that arise here are when a mod is installed incorrectly or the code to your phpbb has been altered as to where something doesnt operate correctly.
So, in result, if it doesnt work when you first installed it that means you did something wrong. |
